Workshop Participant — Climate Change and Migration at ICIMOD
Successfully completed the fully funded journalism training program at ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) on Climate Change and Migration, held in Nepal from 1 to 3 July 2026.
The program brought together participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan, guided by expert trainers — journalists, climate specialists, researchers, academicians, photojournalists, and senior editors — fostering practical insights into climate storytelling. It was an amazing experience learning new methodologies, perspectives, and evidence through presentations, workshops, and panel discussions on ethical reporting, alongside opportunities for networking and cross-cultural exchange.
The training covered terminology and misconceptions around climate mobility, discussions on gender and intersectionality, hands-on sessions on visual storytelling beyond crisis imagery, media analysis, data journalism, and a story pitch lab followed by valuable editorial feedback. It pushed me to think more critically about the language we use, the data we cite, and the stories we choose to tell.
Beyond the sessions, what made this training truly special was the people. The conversations, shared meals, and evening walks in Patan are proof that good journalism is built on community as much as craft — grateful for every one of these connections and hope our paths cross again soon.
Huge thanks to ICIMOD and the SUCCESS project team for putting together such a thoughtfully designed program. I also got the chance to explore Nepal along the way. Looking forward to bringing these learnings into my ongoing work on climate migration and adaptation in the delta.
